CO2를 비롯한 온실가스 문제로 인한 전지구적인 지구온난화 등 기후변화 문제는, 날로 심각해지고 있으며 단계적으로 2030년, 2050년까지 중장기적으로 온실가스 저감을 위한 핵심 및 혁신기술 개발 노력 및 국제간 협력이 매우 중요하고 절실한 글로벌 이슈가 되었다. 이에 온실가스 배출량을 감축할 수 있는 기술성 및 경제성을 보장하는 혁신적인 기술 (포집, 이송, 저장, 모니터링, 고부가가치 화학제품 및 에너지로 전환, 관련 이용, 유관 환경/에너지/소재 융합기술)을 개발하며 이를 범용화하고 이를 국내외적으로 보급하기 위한 정책 및 국제표준화 등을 효과적으로 수행하며 할 수 있는 환경에너지융합 기술기반 산학협력 대학원 연구/개발/교육 인프라를 구축하고 그러한 기술 능력을 지닌 CCS공정 고급인력을 양성하기 위한 <환경에너지융합 CCS공정 혁신기술 고급트랙 (산업통상자원부 에너지기술평가원 에너지인력양성사업 2017-2022)> 사업 등이 국가적으로 수행되고 있다.
본 연구사업에서 주안점을 두는 2가지 혁신기술로서, (1) CCS 전환기술, (2) CCS 4차산업 연계기술용 교육/연구프로그램을 구축/수행하면서 프로젝트 과목을 개설하고 있으며 이를 위한 종합교재로서, 본 사업 참여교수들의 사업 관련 최신 프로젝트 연구논문들을 중심으로 <프로젝트: CCS 혁신기술> 교재를 편집하여 발간하게 되었다.
